‘The Romans’ for iPad brings the sites and objects of Roman Cirencester or Corinium Dobunorum together in a way that has never been possible before. Corinium was the second largest town in Roman Britain after London and once stood in the same place as today’s popular Cotswold market town, Cirencester. The award-winning Corinium Museum, in Cirencester, displays the finest archaeological remains from the Roman town. The physical remains of some of these impressive Roman public buildings can still be seen in the town today.

‘The Romans’ includes an enhanced Museum Tour, Town Tour and a Learning Zone, perfect for a visitor to Cirencester, or anyone interested in Roman history.
The Museum Tour provides a wealth of information from the earliest military occupation of Corinium, how it developed, what it was like to live there, who lived there and the eventual decline of the town. ‘The Romans’ includes artists’ impressions of what the town and its people looked like and photographs of objects found during excavations in the town, now on display in the Museum. For Museum visitors the “find object” tool enables easy location of each object featured.

The Town Tour uses GPS to pin point your location within the town as it is now and as it was laid out by the Romans. The main Roman sites are represented including the Amphitheatre, Forum Basilica, Town Defences, Fort and a Town House. Supported by artists’ impressions of what the buildings looked like, audio of archaeologists talking about the excavations, photographs of the excavations taking place and what objects were discovered at each of the sites. You can also follow a walking tour around the town to visit the different sites.

The Learning Zone is ideal for anyone teaching the Romans or for children studying the Romans in school. Use ‘The Romans’ as a stand-alone app or project it on to a whiteboard for an entire class to take part. Test your knowledge with the fun interactive quiz all about Roman Cirencester and download the activities pack full of exciting activities to try your hand at. Also included is an information pack that uses the evidence to reveal how we know about the different aspects of Roman life in Corinium.
